In September the project team commissioned an archaeological investigation of the current floor structure by means of the excavation of trial holes in the church floor. This was followed at the end of the month by the submission to the Exeter Diocese of the application for a faculty to start the building works.

A faculty is like a planning application in that it seeks formal permission to carry out alternations or improvements to church buildings and involves consultation with heritage bodies such as Historic England. I

t is hoped that the application will be determined in December and that will then allow the project team to proceed with a further round of fundraising leading to the application to the National Lottery Fund for delivery funding.

Depending on the outcome of the funding applications it is hope that by the beginning of 2024 works will commence.
